Service Description

Provincial drug insurance plan that helps members with the cost of prescription drugs and some supplies which are indicated benefits in the Nova Scotia Formulary.

Eligibility

Residents of Nova Scotia with a valid Nova Scotia health card who are at least 65 years old and who do not have prescription drug coverage under any other plan or program

Application Process

• Program information and application forms are mailed out 2-3 months prior to Nova Scotia residents’ 65th birthday, and also provided to other individuals upon request

• Complete and return the application within 90 days of the first day of the month in which an individual is first eligible to apply: when an individual turns age 65; when an individual who has continuous private drug coverage from age 65 but it ends for any reason; or when an individual moves to Nova Scotia and receives their Nova Scotia health card

• If a resident applies beyond the 90 day period in which they were first eligible or if they leave the program for any reason and decide to join later, they may have to pay a late entry fee
