Service Description
Provides information, support and assistance. Includes:
- Giving information and answering questions about the criminal justice system (police, courts, prosecution, corrections)
- Getting information about the case
- Helping individuals contact police, the Crown Attorney, and the correctional system
- Helping individuals prepare to testify in court
- Explaining and helping individuals prepare a victim impact statement
- Helping individuals apply for restitution
- Helping individuals apply for criminal injuries counselling
- Providing special help to child victims or witnesses of crime
- Referring individuals to other agencies that may be helpful
- Criminal court preparation
- Courtroom tour
The program cannot give legal advice or long term counselling but can assist individuals in contacting other helping agencies.
